課程目標

The goals of this course are twofold.  First, it is important that students are provided with foundational knowledge relating to the subject of Western philosophy.  This will require interacting with literary texts, including primary and secondary source material. Using these texts, students will engage with a variety of ideas on a multitude of subjects. In class work, whole class discussions, and a variety of projects with help students learn the material in a meaningful manner.  Secondly, it is important that students take something of personal value away from the course. Philosophy is intended to be personally meaningful and rewarding. It is desirable that students are able to assess and acquire the wisdom of some of the West’s greatest thinkers and achievers, then use this understanding to better themselves and those around them. 

      本課程目標有兩層。第一,學生對西洋哲學有基礎的認識。學生將藉由閱讀一次文獻及二次文獻學習不同主題的不同思想,並透過課堂作業、全班討論、以及多樣的專題報告有趣地學習哲學。第二,學生從本課堂帶走對自身有意義的價值。哲學應是對自身有意義並幫助自身成長的。希望學生能夠從一些西洋哲學史上最棒的思想家及實踐家身上學習他們的智慧,並利用這份智慧讓自己及身旁的人成為更好的人。

Students will be assessed using a variety of assessment methods. These will include, written observations of students, assessment of in class work, quizzes, exams, projects, and verbal interactions. Students will be provided for rubrics for larger projec
